The defense is set to resume its cross-examination of Atty. Alexander Cabrera, the last witness presented by the House prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, on Monday, October 12.
Cabrera, a financial forensic analyst and certified public accountant, is scheduled to face questioning from defense counsel Kristine Ferrer when the trial resumes at 10 a.m.
During his testimony on Friday, Cabrera said Vice President Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, allegedly had ₱817.87 million in unexplained or undeclared assets and income from 2022 to 2025.
After the cross-examination, the prosecution and defense will conduct redirect and recross-examinations, respectively, before the senator-judges are given two minutes each to ask questions.
Meanwhile, Senate President and presiding officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero is expected to address the prosecution’s request to withdraw Article III of the impeachment complaint, which covers the bribery allegations.
Impeachment court spokesperson Atty. Regie Tongol said the House prosecution panel must also clarify its next steps regarding Article I, as it has yet to formally rest its case on the article.
Article I accuses Duterte of the alleged misuse and irregular liquidation of ₱500 million in confidential funds allocated to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and ₱112.5 million allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) during her tenure as education secretary.
Tongol said the prosecution had not formally rested its case on Article I because of the possibility of presenting additional witnesses, including Col. Lachica and Col. Nolasco.
