A Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official is set to testify Thursday before the impeachment court on Article II of the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, which alleges that she accumulated unexplained wealth.

BIR Office of the Commissioner Chief of Staff Atty. Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez is expected to take the witness stand and testify on documents, including the income tax returns and audited financial statements of Duterte, her husband Manases Carpio, and nearly 20 entities.

Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol said the House prosecution panel is expected to highlight specific amounts and financial records relevant to the allegations.

“The House prosecution panel would have to go through all these documents of all the years, almost all of the years that they feel are significant. And then, they would also have to identify the entities for each year,” Tongol said.

He added that the documents to be discussed include the income tax returns and audited financial statements of Duterte, Carpio, and the entities linked to them.

The trial is expected to be briefly suspended at around 1:30 p.m. to allow the Senate to hold a roughly 30-minute plenary session. The impeachment proceedings will resume after the session.
