A steel plant in Davao was raided in a joint operation by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) following reports of the production of substandard metal parts and the illegal use of radioactive materials.

In a Friday report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, the PAOCC, NBI, and military rescued 174 Filipino employees from Davao Mighty Steel Corporation on Thursday, August 13.

“Above normal” amounts of Uranium were detected from the substandard steel parts, according to the report.

PAOCC Executive Director Undersecretary Benjamin Acorda, accompanied by NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag, headed for Davao City following the successful raid at the Davao Mighty Steel Corp.

Previously, authorities ordered the closure of Sanjia Steel Corp. in Misamis Oriental just after Chuangxing Steel in Pampanga, which was run by Chinese nationals.
