Cybersecurity analyst flags possible online radicalization in school violence cases
by Elijah Gaven Mitra23 June 2026

A cybersecurity analyst has raised concerns over the possible role of online radicalization in incidents of school violence, including the recent shooting in Tacloban City and similar cases reported abroad.

During an exclusive interview on DZRH Balansyado, Tech Support Professional and Cybersecurity Analyst Art Samaniego Jr. said that exposure to extremist content and violent online communities may be influencing some individuals involved in such incidents.

Samaniego pointed to the use of violent symbolism, including clothing with messages such as "KMFDM," which means "Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid" in German, or “no mercy for the masses,” which he said has been linked to certain perpetrators in both local and international cases.

“Hindi ito kwento ng bullying, kundi kwento ng radicalization,” Samaniego said.

He explained that some young individuals are not only exposed to online games but are also being drawn into extremist movements and communities on the internet that promote violent ideologies.

“Ang mga batang ito, hindi lang sila exposed sa game na ito kundi na-expose din sila sa isang extreme movement,” he said.

According to Samaniego, some online groups actively encourage youth participation in violent behavior, raising concerns about how digital platforms may be contributing to harmful radical influences.

The statement comes in the wake of the recent Tacloban City school shooting, where authorities are continuing to investigate possible motives behind the incident. The case has sparked renewed discussions on school safety, mental health, and the impact of online content on vulnerable individuals.

Law enforcement agencies have yet to officially confirm whether online radicalization played a role in the incident, as investigations remain ongoing.
