The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has urged the public to be more cautious in consuming and sharing information online following the ongoing power struggle and political tensions in the Senate.

The advisory comes amid reports of possible demonstrations and public gatherings linked to developments in the Senate, including a reported change in leadership and rising tensions between rival blocs.

CICC Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said the agency’s online monitoring systems have detected discussions and activities across various platforms suggesting that some groups may be preparing rallies and other mass gatherings.

“In light of these developments, the agency encourages Filipinos to be vigilant when consuming and sharing information related to political and religious activities, particularly on social media and messaging platforms,” Paraiso said.

He also warned against the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and unverified content, saying these could worsen political tensions and mislead the public during a sensitive period.

“The agency also reminded the public to verify information that they see on social media platforms through credible and official sources before participating in any event,” he added.

Paraiso stressed that cyberspace should be treated as a shared civic space where users bear responsibility for the accuracy and impact of the content they share.

“Cyberspace is not only a platform for expressing opinions but also a shared space where every Filipino has a responsibility to ensure that the information you consume and share is accurate and constructive,” he said.

He further reminded organizers, participants, and social media users to avoid posting or sharing content that may encourage violence, unlawful acts, or actions that could threaten public safety and order.

“We appeal to Filipino netizens to be discerning and responsible online. Let us not add fuel to confusion, division, or conflict by spreading unverified information or inflammatory content. Instead, let us promote respectful dialogue based on facts and digital responsibility,” Paraiso said.

The advisory was issued following exchanges of accusations between rival Senate groups over alleged irregularities in flood control projects, alongside an ongoing dispute over leadership within the chamber.

Despite a declaration from 12 senators declaring all committee positions vacant, the bloc of Alan Peter Cayetano continued with hearings on the flood control scandal in June.

Meanwhile, the official Blue Ribbon Committee hearing under its newly appointed chair, Erwin Tulfo, has been rescheduled to June 8.
