Controversial contractor Curlee Discaya has requested a temporary release over the holidays and reconsideration of a contempt order against him on humanitarian grounds, his legal counsel, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III, confirmed.
In an interview with DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan, Samaniego said Discaya assured authorities that he will not evade the law and is willing to surrender his Philippine passport.
“Willing din po siyang isurrender ang kanyang Philippine passport kung papayagan siya makalabas kahit man lang Christmas or sana malihis na ‘yong contempt order niya kasi nga hindi naman kasama yon sa inquiry ng aid of legislation, ‘yong ground ng kanyang contempt,” Samaniego explained.
Samaniego added that both Discaya and his child submitted letters to authorities citing humanitarian reasons. He emphasized that Discaya is prepared to face any charges connected to the controversial flood control projects.
“Sumulat po ang kanyang anak at sumulat din po siya for humanitarian reasons. Actually, yung sulat po niya ay patungkol po sa hindi niya pag-atras dito sa mga kaso haharapin niya, kung meron man isampa laban sa kanya,” the legal counsel said.
According to Samaniego, Discaya has been informed about the issuance of an arrest warrant for his wife, Sarah Discaya, which they received in advance last night around 8 PM.
