Controversial flood control contractor Curlee Discaya has been allowed to leave Senate custody to undergo a medical procedure at a hospital for about a week, Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza said.
Mendoza said Discaya requested permission to undergo surgery on his right shoulder, which was approved after evaluation by both Senate medical personnel and hospital doctors.
He said the procedure is tentatively scheduled for this Thursday, pending final clearance.
“Nag-request kasi siya na mag-undergo ng medical procedure, so pinayagan naman siya,” Mendoza said, adding that Discaya is expected to stay in the hospital for around seven days before returning to Senate custody for continued recovery.
Security arrangements will remain in place during his hospital stay, with a Senate sergeant assigned to guard him. The hospital where the procedure will take place was not disclosed for security reasons.
Mendoza also said Discaya’s movement and visits will be restricted while in the hospital, depending on security protocols.
“Parang restricted,” he said when asked if family members would be allowed to visit freely.
When asked about his status among detainees under the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Mendoza confirmed that Discaya is currently the only remaining detainee.
He added that Discaya’s condition was assessed by Senate in-house doctors and corroborated by hospital physicians before approval was granted.
“Na-check ng in-house doctor natin at na-check din ng hospital. Nag-go naman,” Mendoza said.
