A new cultural experience allowing visitors to wear traditional Filipino attire has been launched inside Intramuros, aiming to turn heritage appreciation into active participation.

Launched on Sunday, April 26, Traje de Intramuros is the latest initiative of the La Manila Dance Ambassadors and Rondalla group of cultural missionaries.

The program expands their weekend cultural performances at Fort Santiago, where they have been regularly staging traditional dance and music presentations for the past two years.

Instead of limiting cultural engagement to watching performances, the initiative invites tourists and locals to wear Philippine national costumes and immerse themselves in the experience. Organizers said the concept draws inspiration from similar cultural practices abroad, such as wearing hanbok in South Korea, kimono in Japan, and traditional attire in Thailand.

They emphasized that the Philippines has its own rich textile and sartorial heritage that deserves equal experiential exposure.

The rental service offers traditional Filipino attire complete with styling support. Packages range from ₱800 to ₱2,000, depending on add-ons and props for photo sessions. It is also an initiative supported by the Intramuros Administration, according to Archie Dema-ala, Founding Director of the Traje de Intramuros.

Each rental includes approximately three to four hours of use, along with makeup and hairstyling services designed for cultural-themed photography within the historic walled city.

Organizers described the program as both a cultural education tool and a tourism experience designed to deepen appreciation for Filipino identity through interactive participation rather than passive observation.
