American drag queen Crystal Methyd has made RuPaul's Drag Race history after being crowned the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 11, becoming the first drag queen of Mexican descent to win the U.S. franchise's coveted title.
The Springfield, Missouri-based performer first competed on Season 12 of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2020, where she finished as the runner-up. Returning to the competition for All Stars Season 11, Crystal proved herself as a dominant contender by winning four maxi challenges, including both semifinal episodes, securing her place in the grand finale.
The finale featured a disco-themed lip-sync smackdown among the remaining six queens. Crystal first defeated Jasmine Kennedie with a performance of Amii Stewart's "Knock on Wood," before facing wildcard finalist Joey Jay in the final battle to Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park." Her signature eccentric style, theatrical performance, and unmistakable charisma ultimately earned her the title.
Crystal's victory marks a historic milestone for representation in the Drag Race franchise. While Ginger Minj became the first Latina winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in the previous season as a queen of Puerto Rican descent, Crystal is now the first queen of Mexican heritage to win across the U.S. editions of both RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.
Throughout the competition, Crystal proudly celebrated her heritage, most notably by wearing an elaborate gown inspired by Aztec artistry during the finale. Upon being announced as the winner by RuPaul, Crystal delivered an emotional message celebrating her community.
"I feel so proud to represent for Latinas and I'm also dedicating this one to all you weirdos," Crystal said after receiving the crown.
In addition to earning a place in the prestigious Drag Race Hall of Fame, Crystal took home the $200,000 grand prize, capping off one of the most celebrated comeback journeys in the franchise's history.
Crystal emerged victorious over a competitive cast of 18 returning queens, including Filipina drag artist Aura Mayari. Aura competed in the same tournament bracket as Crystal during the early rounds but was eliminated before advancing to the merged stage of the competition.
Crystal Methyd's landmark victory is being hailed by fans as another significant step forward for diversity and Latino representation within the global Drag Race franchise.
