From the provinces of the Philippines, the Santacruzan has found its way to Zagreb, Croatia.
Filipino women from across Europe flocked to the Croatian capital, dressed as characters from the old and new testaments of the Bible, according to a report.
This Santacruzan proves Filipino faith and culture continues to thrive globally, said presider Father Andrew Bayal in a mass at the San Vincent de Paul church that preceded the vibrant event.
The procession, according to the Philippine Heritage Society, concludes the month-long Flores de Mayo and commemorates how Queen Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, found the Holy Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified, and took it back to Rome.
While the terms Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo are often used interchangeably, the main difference between the two is that the Flores de Mayo is a flower festival held in honor of the Virgin Mary while the Santacruzan centers on St. Helena’s story.
