Tarlac 1st District Rep. Cristy Angeles in a Friday statement assured her cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman regarding a complaint filed against her in connection with her reported involvement in anomalous flood control projects.
In a social media post, Angeles clarified that the complaint is still in the preliminary investigation stage, which determines if the case is backed by sufficient evidence, and not a ruling of guilt.
“Iginagalang ko po ang ating mga institusyon at ganap akong makikipagtulungan sa Office of the Ombudsman. Ihaharap ko ang lahat ng kinakailangang paliwanag at dokumento sa tamang forum,” she said.
However, she asserted that this is her first term as congresswoman, while the flood control projects she is being linked to were funded during the 18th and 19th Congress.
“Ako po ay isang first-term Representative ng Ikalawang Distrito ng Tarlac. Ang mga proyektong flood control na tinutukoy sa reklamo ay isinagawa pa noong panahon ng 18th at 19th Congress, bago pa man ako naging kongresista. Ang mga usaping ito ay sasagutin batay sa mga opisyal na rekord at ebidensiya,” she said, adding that she trusts that the truth will prevail and the law will provide a clear and just evaluation of the complaint.
Angeles appealed to the public to refrain from speculation and to respect due process.
“Ang paghahain ng reklamo at ang pagsasagawa ng preliminary investigation ay hindi katumbas ng pananagutan,” she reminded.
In the meantime, the lawmaker affirmed that she remains committed to her duties and public service and will not let accusations against her divert her time, energy, and empathy from her mandate.
