The tropical depression “Crising” may intensify into a tropical storm on Thursday morning, July 17, the PAGASA said in an update on Wednesday, July 16.
Weather Specialist John Manalo stated that “Crising” was previously observed moving towards the eastern part of Virac, Catanduanes, with a distance of 725 kilometers. According to the weather specialist, it has a maximum sustained wind of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and a gustiness of up to 55 kph.
It is currently moving westward at 35 km/h. Moreover, strong winds would extend outwards up to 280 km from the center.
Once “Crising” reaches the Tropical Storm category, the PAGASA forecasted that it will continue intensifying over the Philippine Sea and may reach the Severe Tropical Storm category by Friday afternoon or evening, July 18, before its approach to the Northern Luzon area.
However, PAGASA noted that further intensification, up to a Typhoon category, prior to the approach is not ruled out.
The weather bureau advised the public to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Moreover, persons living in areas identified as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are also advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 5:00 PM today.
