The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering the use of advanced technologies, including facial recognition and iris scanning, in upcoming elections to further strengthen the voter database, according to Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco

Laudiangco reported that over two million voters have been added to the list from 2019 to 2025 following intensified voter registration efforts. At the same time, more than half a million names were removed due to double or multiple registrations, verified through biometrics such as fingerprints, photographs, and signatures.

The Comelec has also coordinated with the Civil Registrar to remove voters who have passed away, ensuring a more accurate and reliable voter list.

Laudiangco emphasized that maintaining a clean and updated voter database is crucial to the credibility of elections,” said Laudiangco in a statement to Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

With these efforts, Comelec aims to enhance the integrity of the electoral process and reduce the risk of voter fraud in future polls.
