Around 97.79% of the expected election returns (ERs) from the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) had been received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of 6:39 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Based on the Comelec's official website, it had received 5,097 of the expected 5,212 ERs as of 6:39 a.m.
The first BARMM parliamentary elections were held on Monday, September 14, after being postponed four times.
“Pumasok na kagabi, more or less, ang 97% ng lahat ng results,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia said in an interview on DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas (MUP).
He said the partial results were enough to give the Bangsamoro electorate a general idea of which candidates won and how many seats would be secured by political parties and sectoral organizations.
However, voting will continue in Maluso, Basilan, where the election was extended to Tuesday following an incident involving pre-shaded ballots.
Garcia said provinces such as Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, the Special Geographic Area (SGA), and Lanao del Sur may begin proclaiming winning candidates before noon Tuesday.
In Basilan, the district not affected by the incident may also proceed with the proclamation, while the affected district will have to await the results from the continued voting in Maluso.
For the entire BARMM, however, political parties may have to wait for the remaining results from Basilan before their final seat allocations can be determined.
Garcia said 100% of the election results would be needed for the Comelec to officially determine the distribution of seats.
“More or less, ngayong araw na ito, lahat-lahat naman kakayanin na natin na i-proklama ang mga winning candidates,” he said.
Garcia also said a 2.5% threshold would be considered in the first stage of determining the allocation of parliamentary seats, followed by a second stage.
He added that official confirmation from the respective boards of canvassers and the concerned sectoral organizations would still be required.
Meanwhile, voter turnout in the BARMM reached around 80%, or approximately 1.8 million voters, despite incidents of violence and an explosion reported during the polls.
“Ang atin pong voters turnout, more or less, 80% ang voters turnout sa buong Bangsamoro,” Garcia said.
Despite the incidents, Garcia described the elections as “generally peaceful” and successful.
“Bagamat mayroong mga insidente ng karahasan ay masasabi natin na generally peaceful, successful naman,” he said.
He said the violence was largely confined to Cotabato City, while voting proceeded smoothly in other provinces.
“‘Yung naging karahasan ay talaga namang naconfine lamang sa siyudad ng Cotabato at sa ibang probinsya naging maayos naman po ang pagboto ng mga kababayan natin,” Garcia stressed.
