The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 32 people, including an eight-month-old infant and a pregnant woman, after a fire broke out in Barangay Sangali early Friday, August 14.

Coast Guard Sub-Station Sangali personnel responded to the reported fire at Purok 2 at about 1:25 a.m. aboard AB-263 and coordinated with MCS-3004 for the deployment of a rubber boat for search and rescue, firefighting and emergency assistance.

Upon arrival, the Coast Guard firefighting team helped contain the blaze along the shoreline while simultaneously evacuating affected families.

The 32 victims were brought to the Coast Guard Sub-Station Sangali office for immediate safety and assistance before being turned over to Barangay Sangali officials. They were temporarily sheltered at the barangay hall and were assessed to be in good condition.

Fire Inspector Garipole Dagalea of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the ground commander, declared the fire under control at about 3:52 a.m.

The Coast Guard said it remains committed to supporting inter-agency disaster response efforts and providing timely assistance to communities affected by emergencies.
