The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Davao has intensified its monitoring operations while urging travelers to take alternative routes to the Island Garden City of Samal to avoid heavy congestion at ports during the Holy Week surge.

Lt. JG Winston Rey P. Gonzales of Coast Guard Station Davao City said at least four key routes remain open for passengers, including Mae Wess Port and DavSam Port in Davao City, which can accommodate both walk-in passengers and vehicles.

These ports are expected to experience high foot traffic as thousands of tourists and returning residents head to Samal Island for the holiday break.

To help decongest major terminals, Gonzales said passengers may also take smaller vessels from Sta. Ana Wharf and Kinawitnon Port, particularly for trips bound for Talikud Island. He emphasized that these alternative entry points can significantly reduce waiting time compared to the more crowded ferry terminals.

The PCG has also deployed additional personnel to manage passenger flow, conduct safety inspections, and ensure that vessels are not overloaded. Authorities reminded boat operators to strictly follow maritime safety regulations, including proper documentation, life-saving equipment, and adherence to passenger capacity limits.

Meanwhile, travelers are strongly encouraged to plan their trips in advance, arrive early at ports, and monitor weather conditions before traveling. The Coast Guard also advised the public to cooperate with port authorities and remain vigilant to ensure a safe and orderly Holy Week travel period.
