Filipina tennis standout Alex Eala has returned to training at the Rafa Nadal Academy as she prepares for her next tournament, the Italian Open, which is set to begin in the coming days.
According to an update posted by the academy on social media, Eala has resumed her preparations following her withdrawal from the WTA 125 Catalonia Open after competing in the Madrid Open.
In Madrid, Eala reached the Round of 64 in the singles draw and advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles, continuing her steady presence in high-level WTA competition.
The Italian Open will serve as the next stage of her clay-court campaign, following her participation in the Linz Open, Stuttgart Open, and Madrid Open earlier in the season.
Throughout the 2026 tour, Eala has delivered mixed but notable results across different surfaces. She reached the Round of 16 in both the Miami Open and Indian Wells Open, while making it to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Abu Dhabi Open.
During the season’s early hard-court swing, she also reached the semifinals of the ASB Classic before exiting in the Round of 128 of the Australian Open.
Despite inconsistent results on clay so far, the Italian Open is expected to be a key preparatory event for Eala ahead of the French Open, one of the sport’s four Grand Slam tournaments.
