Former National Security Adviser Clarita Carlos has filed a cyber libel complaint against Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, Philippine Military Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Mike Logico, and other personalities before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag confirmed the complaint, saying the bureau would notify the individuals named by Carlos and give them an opportunity to respond.
“She actually filed a complaint sa cyber libel. Different personalities. Just this way, we also entertain her. And we'll probably send a letter or invitation also to the personality mentioned,” Matibag said.
“Actually, yun naman yung discussion namin kay Professor Carlos. We will inform them of your complaint so that they can respond properly also,” he added.
The complaint stemmed from a public exchange between Carlos and Tarriela over remarks by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan concerning the use of force against the Philippines.
Tarriela accused Carlos of failing to defend the country's maritime rights during her tenure as national security adviser. Carlos, meanwhile, told the Coast Guard official to “shut the f*ck up” and “get a duct tape and cover your mouth,” while also calling him a “troublemaker.”
Logico also drew attention after posting, “now I remember why I walked out of her class during MNSA (Master in National Security Administration),” following Carlos' questioning of calls to boycott Chinese-made products.
The NBI is expected to send letters or invitations to the individuals named in the complaint to inform them of the allegations and allow them to provide their side.
