Meralco Bolts rookie CJ Cansino shared that his transition to the PBA has been made easier with the guidance and support of his veteran teammates, whom he credits for helping him adjust to the professional level.
In an interview with Milli Borja on DZRH TV Matchpoint, Cansino spoke about how his teammates played a crucial role in helping him settle into his new environment. He admitted that joining the pros was a major adjustment, especially since many of his current teammates were players he once looked up to while still competing at the amateur level.
According to Cansino, one of the biggest changes in his game was being encouraged to expand beyond his offensive strengths. He explained, “No'ng College ako, parang more on offensive side ako, pero dito talagang pinupush nila ako to be a two-way player so ‘yon ang pinaka biggest adjustment na ginawa ko pagpasok ko ng pro.”
Cansino officially joined the Meralco Bolts after being selected as the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 PBA Season 49 Draft held in July 2024.
The Meralco Bolts recently secured their first-ever PBA championship on June 16, 2024, after defeating the San Miguel Beermen in the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup. Since joining the league in 2010, the team had previously finished as runner-up multiple times before finally capturing the title.
