The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the provincial government of Albay are closely monitoring the possible effects of Tropical Storm Ada on the activity of Mayon Volcano, amid concerns over heavy rainfall and lahar threats.

The issue was discussed during a regional pre-disaster risk assessment led by OCD-Bicol, where PAGASA presented possible scenarios of Typhoon Ada, while PHIVOLCS provided updates on Mayon’s current condition and potential hazards.

PHIVOLCS warned that intense and prolonged rains could mobilize accumulated volcanic materials on Mayon’s slopes, increasing the risk of lahar flows in surrounding communities.

As part of preparedness efforts, provincial and city disaster risk reduction and management offices are identifying areas for possible preemptive evacuation, particularly in villages near the volcano.

Authorities are also awaiting possible advisories from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) regarding the suspension of land travel between Albay and parts of the Visayas, Catanduanes, and Masbate.

Meanwhile, the DSWD Field Office Region 5 assured that relief goods and resources are ready to support local governments if the situation worsens, as the Bicol Region remains under Red Alert due to the combined threats of Mayon Volcano and Tropical Storm Ada.
