Cignal Super Spikers hit pause on their Spikers’ Turf campaign after officially filing a leave of absence from the upcoming Open Conference.

In a statement released by the team, Cignal said the decision came after an internal review of its plans moving forward.

“This difficult decision was made after a careful review by management of Cignal’s current and future plans,” the team said, while thanking its players, coaches, staff, and supporters for their continued trust and support.

Cignal clarified that the move is a temporary step and not a permanent withdrawal from the league. However, no timetable was given regarding the team’s possible return to Spikers’ Turf competition.

With the Super Spikers stepping aside, the league will move forward with fewer participating teams in the Open Conference. The development also places several Cignal players into free agency, potentially leading to roster changes across the league ahead of the new season.

Despite the men’s team stepping aside, Cignal confirmed that its women’s team will continue to compete in the Premier Volleyball League.

Cignal is the most successful franchise in Spikers’ Turf history since the league was established in 2015.

The Super Spikers have won nine Spikers’ Turf championships, the most by any team in league history, and recorded 16 consecutive podium finishes across multiple conferences.

Since entering Philippine club volleyball in 2014, Cignal has remained active at the top level of men’s volleyball for more than 10 years, beginning with a championship run in the Philippine Super Liga.

Under head coach Dexter Clamor, the Super Spikers built a system anchored on depth and continuity. Over the years, the team featured key players such as Bryan Bagunas, JP Bugaoan, Louie Ramirez, Owa Retamar, Vince Lorenzo, Lloyd Josafat, and Jau Umandal, many of whom played major roles in the team’s title runs.

Cignal also captured two PVL Men’s titles and two PNVF Champions League championships, extending its success beyond Spikers’ Turf competition.

Several Cignal standouts went on to represent Alas Pilipinas Men in regional and international tournaments, reinforcing the team’s role as a consistent contributor to the national pool.

With Cignal not joining the 2026 Open Conference, the remaining teams are Criss Cross King Crunchers, Alpha Insurance Protectors, PGJC-Navy Sea Lions, Savouge Spin Doctors, and VNS-Laticrete Griffins.
