The House prosecution panel is seeking to include a box containing Vice President Sara Duterte’s Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) tax records in the official marking of evidence ahead of her impeachment trial.

Speaking on DZRH’s ‘Dos Por Dos,’ Rep. Joel Chua said the team has asked the impeachment court to at least mark the box itself, even if the documents inside it have yet to be opened and individually identified.

“Ang gusto sana namin [prosecution] eh pati yung box mismo mamarkahan na. Kung hindi man lamang yung loob at least yung box mamarkahan,” Chua said.

Chua noted that while the pre-trial conference has concluded, some items — including the BIR records box — remain unmarked.

He said the prosecution has several pending motions before the impeachment court, including a request to open the box and another seeking to allow the use of the Filipino language during proceedings to make them more accessible to the public.

Only the impeachment court, not the clerk of court, can act on these motions, he added.

Chua stressed the need to resolve the matter before the formal trial begins, warning that failure to mark the box could prevent it from being admitted as evidence.

“Baka mamaya eh kapag nagsara na yan eh hindi na namin maisama sa markings, papano it magiging parte ng aming ebidensya?” he said.

He added that the prosecution had earlier pushed to have the box marked during pre-trial, even without opening it, to ensure its inclusion.

Chua described the pre-trial as “basically finished,” but acknowledged that some documents — particularly those inside the unopened box — still need to be addressed before the official impeachment trial begins on July 6.
