Caution, manok on board!

A jeepney with a live chicken on its hood was flagged by authorities along EDSA in Pasay City on Thursday morning.

In a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort, the jeepney driver claimed the chicken has been a companion and good luck charm through his daily rounds for 10 years, and that his mother had entrusted the poultry bird to him.

Upon investigation, however, Department of Transportation - Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) personnel, who were conducting a random roadworthiness inspection, found he had several violations—his unit was in poor condition, having worn-down wheels and defective brake lights.

“Marami po tayong napapansin na mga bumibiyahe na may mga depektibong mga parte ‘yung kani-kanilang mga sasakyan. Kaya ito po ‘yung mga inuuna natin, ‘yung mga major highways po natin dito sa Metro Manila,” DOTr-SAICT Spokesperson Rayson dela Torre told Ricafort.

(We notice many traveling with defective parts in their vehicles. That’s why we have prioritized these major highways here in Metro Manila.)

The driver with chicken in tow, along with four others operating jeepneys and a taxi, were issued tickets and had their licenses confiscated.

The lowest fine amounted to ₱5,000, to be paid in order to redeem their licenses at the main office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
