Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan paid a courtesy call to Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Monday, December 22, to discuss Manila’s Filipino-Chinese heritage, public safety, and possible areas of local-level cooperation.
Mayor Moreno welcomed the new envoy and highlighted Binondo as the world’s oldest Chinatown, emphasizing the long-standing contributions of the Filipino-Chinese community to Manila’s growth. He assured the ambassador that Filipino-Chinese residents, Chinese businessmen, and Chinese tourists are safe in the city and receive equal protection and public services.
The mayor also expressed openness to expanding people-to-people ties, business partnerships, and cultural exchanges between Manila and selected cities in China.
Ambassador Jing formally assumed his post earlier this month after presenting his credentials to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., following courtesy calls with key Philippine officials.
