The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) officially launched the Higher Education Summit (HES) 2026 on March 10, convening leaders from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in a unified forum to advance forward‑looking reforms in Philippine higher education.

Held under the theme “ACHIEVING Sustainable Futures: Transformative Higher Education for Human Capital, Innovation, and Global Responsibility,” the summit underscores the sector’s pivotal role in driving national development, global engagement, and industry relevance.

In her opening address, CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis highlighted the ACHIEVE Agenda, a strategic framework that outlines clear priorities and enabling systems for the higher education landscape through 2030, aligned with the Bagong Pilipinas vision and the administration’s Eight‑Point Socioeconomic Agenda.

“The future of higher education will be shaped by how effectively this entire ecosystem works together,” Dr. Agrupis said, emphasizing that the agenda serves not merely as policy guidance but as an invitation to collective action among educators and institutions nationwide.

The summit’s sessions featured high‑level dialogues on curriculum relevance, science‑driven human capital strategies, research collaboration, and multi‑sector partnerships aimed at better preparing graduates for complex societal challenges. Policy briefings and thematic discussions are structured to support actionable initiatives advancing CHED’s strategic priorities.

Beyond discussions, participating institutions explored partnerships in research, faculty development, innovation ecosystems, and community‑engaged initiatives to operationalize strategic reforms across the higher education sector.

The summit also affirms CHED’s strengthened collaboration with partner agencies and national education reform efforts, including the extension of the Second Congressional Commission on Education’s mandate to further oversee comprehensive education reforms and workforce development planning.

With the event serving as a platform to reflect on shared challenges and actionable solutions, CHED officials reinforced commitments to expanding access, improving quality, boosting industry linkages, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Philippine higher education.
