The Phoenix SUPER LPG Fuelmasters have a new captain on the sidelines.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the PBA team officially announced Charles Tiu as their head coach, marking a fresh chapter for the franchise ahead of the Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

Tiu, 37, formally accepted the coaching role last Monday and is set to begin preparations with the team starting tomorrow. He succeeds Willy Wilson, whose contract was not renewed after Phoenix finished with a 3–8 record in the Philippine Cup.

A familiar name in Philippine basketball, Tiu is the younger brother of former PBA standout Chris Tiu.

He cut his teeth in the sport early, gaining national team experience before transitioning to the PBA as an assistant coach with several teams. His first head coaching success came in the developmental ranks, guiding Go For Gold to the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup championship.

Tiu’s résumé extends well beyond the local scene. He has helmed teams like Mighty Sports and Strong Group Athletics in international competitions, including the prestigious William Jones Cup and the Dubai International Basketball Championship.

On the collegiate stage, he led the College of Saint Benilde to NCAA Finals appearances in Seasons 98 and 100, demonstrating a knack for developing young talent and maximizing team performance under pressure.
