Tropical Cyclone Champi intensified into a Super Typhoon, the PAGASA said.

As of 5:00 PM on Monday, October 19, Champi was located at 1,515 km east of Southeastern Luzon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It has maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h, gustiness of up to 230 km/h and a central pressure of 940 hPa.

It is currently moving west-northwestward at 15 km/h.

According to PAGASA, Champi will continue moving northwestward until it enters PAR on Tuesday (October 20) morning or early afternoon. Once inside PAR, it will be given the domestic name “Rosal.”

“It will continue to move west-northwestward until Wednesday (21 October) before moving generally northwestward by Thursday (22 October) onwards. It will exit the PAR region by Saturday (24 October),” the state weather bureau wrote.

Champi is forecast to maintain its strength as a super typhoon as it enters PAR. However, further intensification remains possible while moving over the Philippine Sea.

It may weaken by Thursday after it reaches peak intensity.
