South Korean singer-actor Cha Eun Woo reassured the public that he had fully settled his tax dispute with the National Tax Service (NTS), taking full responsibility for the incident.
The actor released a personal statement on Wednesday, April 8, addressing the tax evasion controversy. As administrative procedures were underway at the time, the actor said he had to be cautious in expressing his position, apologizing again for the incident.
“I respect the procedures and findings of the National Tax Service, and to prevent any further confusion, I have fully paid the related taxes. I will also diligently comply with any remaining procedures,” Eun Woo wrote, as translated by Soompi.
“Having received so much love and support, I am taking this matter very seriously and reflecting deeply. If there were aspects I failed to carefully review, the responsibility lies entirely with me. I will not avoid accountability by saying “I didn’t know” or that it was “someone else’s decision,” he added.
He explained that the corporation was established to manage his activities stably during a period of changes and uncertainties in his career. However, he admitted that there were areas he had overlooked, adding, “I believe the responsibility lies not with my family or company, but with me.”
He also apologized for disappointing his fans, AROHA, stating that he will apply stricter standards to his activities going forward.
“I will continue striving and trying my best to become someone who takes full responsibility for my choices and actions,” he said. “Once again, I offer my sincere apologies.”
In January 2026, several Korean media outlets reported that the actor was under investigation by the NTS for alleged tax evasion amounting to 20 billion won (about $13.6 million). The news broke during his military enlistment, sparking backlash from netizens.
The actor eventually apologized, stating he would comply with the authorities.
