Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña is pushing for amendments to the Kasambahay Law through House Bill No. 11764, seeking to expand the protections and benefits granted to domestic workers.
According to the report of RH Milky Rogonan, the proposed measure aims to cover more categories of household workers, including house caretakers, drivers, and part-time, live-in, and live-out domestic workers.
Under the bill, domestic workers employed by service and retail establishments with at least 15 employees would be entitled to wages not lower than the applicable regional minimum wage.
Cendaña said domestic workers deserve fair compensation, humane working hours, and decent working conditions, emphasizing the need to strengthen their rights and protections.
