A buyer was severely beaten by cellphone vendors in Caloocan after a heated exchange on Tuesday, August 19.
Having bought a phone from vendors at the overpass of the EDSA Carousel Monumento Station, the victim, Jonas De Vera, a resident of Muñoz, Quezon City, asked them for a picture so he would know whom to approach if the phone had issues, according to RH 23 Edwin Duque.
Angered by the request, the three vendors beat the victim with a plastic chair and gave chase. The victim ran down the overpass to security guards, who intervened.
The victim was beaten on various parts of his body, and sustained a deep foot wound after stepping on a sharp fragment from the chair being used to strike him.
The personnel of the Caloocan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office promptly responded, with Caloocan City Police, under the leadership of Police Chief PCol. Joey Goforth arriving at the scene and surrounding the area in under four minutes.
Meanwhile, the suspects fled and blended with the crowd of passengers before police arrived.
The Caloocan police are still in search of them and have transferred De Vera to a hospital.
