Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to urgently explore a humanitarian corridor through Bahrain to bring home Filipinos stranded by Houthi attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia.
Cayetano expressed concern over the seven Filipino workers reportedly wounded in the attacks and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose journeys home have been disrupted.
“I am deeply concerned for our kababayan affected by the Houthi attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia,” Cayetano said, calling for their safety and recovery.
He said the proposed corridor would require close coordination with the Saudi and Bahraini governments on security, border clearances, transportation, and available flights.
Cayetano also stressed the need to provide affected Filipinos with safe accommodation, food, medical assistance, and clear updates while repatriation arrangements are being made.
“Protecting Filipinos overseas is a pillar of our foreign policy,” he said, urging the DFA, DMW, and Philippine embassies to work together urgently to ensure assistance reaches those in need.
“Tungkulin ng pamahalaan na alalayan kayo at gawin ang lahat upang makauwi kayo nang ligtas,” Cayetano said, assuring affected Filipinos that the government must support them until they are safely reunited with their families.
