Senator Alan Peter Cayetano questioned the criticism he has been receiving from fellow lawmakers over his frequent Facebook livestreams, saying that other senators also use social media as part of their public communication and work.
During a Facebook Live session, Cayetano asked why he is singled out for going online, pointing out that other public officials also maintain an active presence on social media platforms.
“So ito lang ang tanong ko sa mga pamilya ko sa Facebook. Bakit si Sen. Lacson at yung Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Sen. Erwin Tulfo, na gumagamit din naman sila ng Facebook… Ba’t kayo galit na galit pag nagpe-Facebook ako? Eh ang hilig niyo rin mag-Facebook,” Cayetano said.
He further cited what he described as inconsistent reactions to social media use among senators, claiming that even committee hearings and Senate proceedings are now widely circulated and edited for online audiences.
Cayetano also addressed criticisms that his livestreams attract significant viewership, arguing that audience numbers vary and are not always in his favor.
“Hindi naman parating mas maraming nanonood sa akin… Walang perpekto sa atin. But it’s time for real change,” he added.
The senator’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions among members of the Senate regarding public communication strategies and the increasing role of social media in political discourse.
