Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday announced the minority bloc's committee leadership assignments during the Senate plenary session, including the designation of Sen. Imee Marcos as Deputy Minority Leader.

The minority bloc also elected its members to chair several Senate committees for the 20th Congress.

Under the new lineup, Sen. Mark Villar will head the Committee on Public Works, while Sen. Imee Marcos was elected chairperson of the Committee on Cooperatives.

Sen. Loren Legarda will chair both the Committee on Culture and Arts and the Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Organizations.

Meanwhile, Sen. Robin Padilla was elected chairperson of the Committee on Public Information and the Committee on Cultural Communities and Muslim Affairs.

Sen. Pia Cayetano will lead the Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation and Futures Thinking, while Sen. Rodante Marcoleta will chair the Committee on Tourism.

The minority bloc also named Sen. Camille Villar as chairperson of the Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, while Sen. Christopher "Bong" Go will head the Committee on Sports.

During the same plenary session, the Senate also elected Sen. Jinggoy Estrada as chairperson of the Committee on Electoral Reforms and People's Participation.

At the time of his election, Estrada remains under detention in connection with a plunder case and continues to be under Senate suspension. Likewise, Marcoleta is also under detention, although he was elected to chair the Committee on Tourism.

The committee assignments form part of the Senate's organizational proceedings as lawmakers continue to constitute committee leadership under the current Congress.
