The Philippine Army has formally recommended the removal of Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga from its roster of military reservists, following an investigation into his social media posts urging uniformed personnel to act against the government.
Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala confirmed the recommendation, which stemmed from findings by the Army Reserve Command. The probe focused on Barzaga’s online statements encouraging members of the AFP and PNP to join the September 21 rally.
Among the sanctions for violations is “delisting”, a process that would effectively remove Barzaga from the military’s reservist rolls.
Dema-ala reiterated that active reservists are prohibited from joining protest actions or using the image of the Armed Forces for personal or political agendas.
The lawmaker’s actions were deemed a violation of GHQ Standard Operating Procedure No. 07, which strictly regulates the conduct of reservists.
“His actions were classified as a grave offense of “misconduct”. The decision is limited to Rep Barzaga’s status within the Army’s reserve force and has no impact on his rights as a civilian or elected official,” Dema-ala said.
In an earlier news, the Philippine Army has investigated the lawmaker-reservist who is said to be urging uniformed personnel to act against the government through social media posts.
The Cavite lawmaker had only been enlisted in January 2025, making the case a swift reversal of his reservist status.
