The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed criminal charges against Cavite Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga in connection with the violent incidents that occiured during the September 21 anti-corruption protests in Manila.

CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II confirmed the complaint was submitted to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office but declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

Barzaga posted a subpoena on social media showing he faces charges of inciting rebellion and sedition under the Revised Penal Code, allegedly tied to provisions of the Cybercrime Prevention Act. He is set to appear before prosecutors on November 18 and 25.

The September 21 protests, which erupted over alleged anomalies in flood control and infrastructure projects, saw clashes at Ayala Bridge and Mendiola Peace Arch.

Over 200 people were arrested, one person died, and human rights groups criticized authorities for failing to show restraint.

Last week, CIDG reported filing cases against 97 other individuals over the same incidents.
