Former Representative France Castro, convener of Tama Na, Kilusang Bayan Kontra Korakot, and Makabayan, said the alleged threats made by Vice President Sara Duterte against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez could serve as key evidence in the upcoming impeachment trial.
In an exclusive interview on DZRH's Isyung Pambayan, Castro said the videos containing Duterte’s statements are sufficient evidence to support the allegations.
“Yun na mismo ay patunay. Kasi 'yung personal doon sa video na makikita yung mga pagbabanta ni Vice President Sara Duterte,” Castro said.
She rejected the defense's argument that Duterte’s remarks were protected by freedom of speech, noting that individuals have previously faced legal action over threats, including those made on social media.
Castro also stressed that impeachment is an administrative, not a criminal, proceeding, saying the trial will focus on whether the Vice President remains fit to hold public office.
“Ang impeachment... hindi naman ito criminal na paglilitis, kundi administrative. So tinitignan dito yung kakayahan o fitness ng isang mataas na opisyal na mamuno sa ating bansa,” she said.
According to Castro, the alleged threats, along with Duterte’s previous statements and conduct, raise serious questions about her suitability to continue serving as vice president and any future bid for the presidency.
