Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro on Thursday rejected the notion that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is becoming a “lame duck” president, saying he remains focused on his work and that government projects continue to move forward.
During the DZRH's Dos Por Dos interview, Castro was asked about the possibility that Marcos could be perceived as a lame duck as he approaches the end of his term.
“Sa ngayon, hindi ko nararamdaman. Dami pa rin naman natatakot kung ano ang mangyayari sa kanilang mga kaso. Nandiyan pa at sinusunod ang Pangulo sa lahat ng mga proyekto, sa lahat ng gusto niyang mangyari para sa kababayan natin,” she said.
“I don’t think so,” she added.
A “lame duck” generally refers to an elected official nearing the end of a term, particularly after a successor has been elected, and is often perceived to have diminished political influence or authority.
The Palace official said Marcos’ continued focus on his work is evident in the progress of government projects, despite his relatively low-key public demeanor.
“Ang Pangulo, kung magtrabaho lang, tahimik lang siya, hindi maingay, walang mura, walang galit. Trabaho, trabaho. Mas okay ‘yun eh, tahimik lang pero nakikita niyo kung ano ang resulta,” she said.
