Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said the cases against Senators Joel Villanueva and Francis “Chiz” Escudero will still push through despite their move to the Senate majority.
“Tuloy ‘yan, ginagawa pa rin namin lahat ‘yan,” Remulla said, referring to the ongoing proceedings against Escudero.
Villanueva and Escudero have been accused of receiving kickbacks linked to infrastructure projects, allegations both senators have denied.
Remulla said the cases remain under the fact-finding stage but are nearing further action.
“Nasa fact-finding pa rin... pero malapit na rin ‘yan. Darating tayo diyan,” he added.
When asked about the case against Villanueva, the Ombudsman said, “Ganun din, same.”
The Ombudsman chief said the senators’ move to join the new Senate majority would not affect the legal processes being handled by his office.
Villanueva was earlier accused by former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan First District engineer Henry Alcantara of receiving a P150-million kickback from a P600-million multi-purpose building project in Bulacan.
Both senators have denied the accusations against them.
