Two-time Olympic champion Carlos Edriel Yulo delivered the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after ruling the men’s floor exercise final at the Nagoya General Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Philippine gymnastics star topped the competition with a winning score of 14.666, built on a difficulty score of 5.7 and an execution score of 8.966.
Yulo narrowly edged Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi, who secured the silver medal with 14.600 points, while Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama settled for bronze with 14.566.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Ryu Sunghyun finished fourth with 14.366, while Japanese gymnastics star Daiki Hashimoto placed sixth with 13.500.
Yulo’s younger brother, Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo, also competed in the final and finished seventh with a score of 12.233 in his Asian Games final debut.
The victory marked Carlos Yulo’s first Asian Games gold medal and added another milestone to his decorated international career.
In a social media post, Yulo dedicated the historic achievement to God and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the Philippines.
“First GOLD for the Philippines here in Nagoya, and my first GOLD at any Asian Games,” Yulo wrote.
“Ikaw po 'to lahat LORD GOD! Gabayan at protektahan mo po uli ako bukas at ang mga atletang pilipino,” he added.
