Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo qualified for the floor exercise and vault finals at the 54th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, after strong performances in the qualification rounds over the weekend.
26-year-old Yulo scored 14.500 points in the floor exercise to place second and recorded 14.266 points in the vault to rank sixth, securing spots in the finals of both apparatuses.
The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) praised Yulo’s performance in a social media post, calling him its “golden boy” and highlighting his results in his signature events.
The floor exercise final is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. Philippine time, while the vault final will take place on Oct. 25 at the same time.
Meanwhile, Yulo’s younger brother, Eldrew, made his debut at the world championships but struggled against a strong international field.
Eldrew finished 84th in the individual all-around with a total of 67.032 points and failed to qualify for the finals of any apparatus.
