Filipino gymnastics star Carlos Yulo missed the podium in the men's floor exercise final at the 2026 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, after finishing eighth in the eight-man field on Saturday.
Yulo scored 13.233 points after falling on the mat during one of his passes, ending his bid for a second world title in the event.
The two-time Olympic champion earned 5.800 points for difficulty and 7.633 for execution, including a 0.10-point bonus, but incurred a 0.30-point penalty.
The result came after Yulo qualified for the final in second place with a score of 14.500, behind Arseniy Dukhno, who posted 14.700.
American Fred Richard captured the gold medal with 14.633 points, securing his first world title, while Filipino-British gymnast Jake Jarman claimed silver with 14.600. Israel's Artem Dolgopyat completed the podium with 14.466.
Yulo's eighth-place finish extended his wait for another world championship gold in the floor exercise. He last won the event in 2019 before claiming bronze at the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta.
The Filipino gymnast is coming off a double-gold performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games last month. He traveled to Europe for a training camp ahead of the world championships.
Despite the setback, Yulo will have another opportunity to secure a medal when he competes in the men's vault final on Sunday, where he will seek to defend his world champion title and bounce back from his floor exercise result.
