Senior citizen plan holders and claimants of CAP Pension Philippines have sought help from the Office of the Ombudsman over retirement benefits they say have remained unpaid for more than two decades.
According to a report of RH Val Gonzales, the group, which includes an 82-year-old woman, submitted an “Urgent Manifesto for Justice” calling for accountability from the Insurance Commission over its alleged prolonged silence and negligence in addressing their claims.
"Nagfollow-up kami ng nagfollow-up matagal na sa Insurance Commission binabalewala lang kami, ang tingin sa amin basura," one of the senior citizen said.
"Kami na retired tax payer, pensioner kami nung mga ano...Ang tingin sa amin basura kaya kami lumapit na dito ngayon," he added.
The claimants said they feared they would die before receiving the retirement benefits they had long been waiting for.
They also alleged unequal treatment in the payment of claims, saying CAP education plan holders were already receiving payments while pension benefits remained frozen.
According to the group, some pension claimants have already died without receiving their benefits.
The senior citizens appealed for intervention to address the delays and hold those responsible accountable.
