A Caloocan City police officer was killed during an encounter after allegedly attempting to rob a convenience store in Bulacan, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.

According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) spokesperson PMAJ Hazel Asilo, the officer, identified as PCapt. Ronnie Sarto of the Investigation and Detection Management Section (IDMS), may have been motivated by financial losses from his food business.

Bulacan Police Director PCOL Angel Garcillano confirmed that Sarto, a resident of the province, had previously been involved in similar robbery incidents.

The fatal incident occurred on the night of November 10, when Sarto’s actions led to a confrontation with responding authorities. Garcillano firmly denied claims of mistaken identity, stating that evidence and victim testimonies confirmed the suspect was indeed the police officer.

Items recovered from Sarto’s motorcycle following the shooting included the clothing he was wearing during the robbery, the stolen cash, and his service firearm.

The NCRPO emphasized that the operation was conducted based on factual evidence and eyewitness accounts, dismissing any suggestion that the shooting was a case of misidentification.
