President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Monday that the newly opened Cavite–Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 3 will be toll-free for one month starting Tuesday, May 5, as he led the inauguration of the latest segment in General Trias City.
“For one month, wala munang toll. So ‘yung ating mga kababayan gamitin po ninyo makita ninyo, maramdaman na ang malaking ginhawa na dinadala nitong mga malalaking project,” Marcos said.
The President said the toll-free period is intended to allow motorists to experience the benefits of the new expressway segment, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Cavite and Laguna.
The new 7.88-kilometer stretch forms part of the Cavite–Laguna Expressway and connects the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias City.
The President added that motorists can begin using the newly opened section starting midnight on May 4.
The new segment is expected to reduce travel time significantly—cutting the trip from Aguinaldo Highway to Governor’s Drive from around 30 minutes to just five minutes.
Travel between Biñan and General Trias is also expected to drop from about one hour to approximately 26 minutes.
The opening of Subsection 3 aims to address heavy traffic in the Cavite–Laguna corridor, where congestion has long affected travel time, fuel costs, and commuter productivity. Government officials said the project is expected to accommodate around 6,000 vehicles daily.
The newly opened segment includes the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias and improves connectivity across key growth areas in Southern Luzon, strengthening access between residential, industrial, and commercial zones in Cavite and Laguna.
