Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday declared that it was under a “state of energy emergency,” in line with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (DRRMC) recommendation.
The declaration, contained in Resolution No. 2026-203, was approved during a special council session following a Monday meeting with the DRRMC.
As early as March 31, the Energy Crisis Committee discussed possible steps in tackling the impact of the oil crisis, as ordered by Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy.
Its beneficiaries include transport groups, farmers, fisherfolk, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and solo parents.
The declaration will allow local authorities to implement apt, precise, and coordinated measures to address the risks in view of global energy shortages.
The council had assured that, once given approval by the executive department, it will carry out its emergency crisis plan to ensure fair allocation of funds.
United States President Donald Trump agreed to hold off the planned bombing of Iran after the latter granted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for a period of two weeks.
The Strait is considered a critical global chokepoint, as it connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and allows the passage of around 20 percent of the world’s everyday oil supply. It is the only sea route for many Gulf producers like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Qatar to Asian markets.
