The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Thursday, August 13, confirmed the ad interim appointment of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, along with the appointments of 37 other generals, flag officers, and senior officers of the military.

Nafarrete, who was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as AFP chief in July, formally secured the confirmation of his appointment after the powerful CA approved his ad interim appointment during its plenary session.

Prior to the plenary deliberations, the CA Committee on National Defense recommended the confirmation of the military officials after evaluating their qualifications.

Committee on National Defense Chairperson Rep. Jose Joboy Aquino II said the panel found all 38 officers qualified for their new posts.

“After exhaustive scrutiny, our committee is fully convinced of their readiness for these higher ranks. We harbor no doubts regarding the integrity and capacity of these 38 candidates,” Aquino said.

During the plenary session, CA Vice Chairperson Rep. Ramon Guico Jr. moved to approve the appointments and nomination.

“I move to recommend to the plenary for the Commission to confirm the 37 interim appointments and to give its consent to one nomination of generals, flag officers, and senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. I so move, Mr. Chair,” Guico said.

The motion was immediately seconded by Majority Floor Leader Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo.

“Second the motion, Mr. Chair,” Romualdo said.

With no objections raised by the members of the Commission, the appointments and nominations were approved.

Aside from Nafarrete's confirmation as AFP Chief of Staff, the CA also confirmed the appointments and promotions of 37 other military officials to various ranks, including lieutenant general, major general, brigadier general, commodore, rear admiral, and reserve officers across the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force.
