Businessman Enrique Razon filed a cyberlibel complaint against Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga over the latter’s accusation of bribery on Wednesday.

Barzaga had claimed that the members of the National Unity Party (NUP) accepted a bribe from Razon to support the speakership of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, according to a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.

The businessman, accompanied by his lawyer, Atty. Laurence Arroyo personally filed the two counts of cyberlibel before the Makati Prosecutor’s Office. Arroyo called the accusation, which was shared on social media, “defamatory.”

“... Filed a complaint for cyberlibel. (Its) basis was the Facebook posts which Congressman Barzaga made on his Facebook account last January 9 … what we consider to be the defamatory statements,” he said.

Razon and Arroyo claimed they did not know the motive behind the allegation but declined to offer additional comments on Barzaga’s supposed evidence, to be presented upon returning to Congress.

Barzaga was suspended for 60 days following the House of Representatives’ adoption of the Committee on Ethics and Privilege’s recommendation.
