The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said it has prepared facilities for possible convicts in cases linked to the alleged flood control scam. BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. announced that a “supermax” prison facility is nearing completion at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro.
Speaking during the Second National Jail Decongestion Summit at the Manila Hotel, Catapang said the facility is intended for high-profile criminals and is expected to be completed within the first quarter of the year, in time for possible use in connection with the flood control controversy.
Catapang added that individuals who may be convicted in the case will no longer be detained at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa, as the facility will be allocated for other government needs.
BuCor said the move is part of efforts to decongest major detention facilities and ensure appropriate detention arrangements for high-profile inmates.
