The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has denied reports claiming that former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo is receiving special treatment at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW).
Bucor Director General Gregorio Catapang said that Guo is currently under a five-day quarantine after being transferred from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on December 6. Contrary to circulating reports, Catapang clarified that Guo is not allowed to use a personal cellphone while at the facility.
According to Catapang, the former mayor, along with other inmates, is subject to the same regulations and restrictions. There are no special privileges, he further noted.
He also emphasized that, in line with health and security protocols, only lawyers and legal counsels are permitted to visit inmates at the CIW.
The statement comes amid reports alleging that Guo received preferential treatment after allegedly being visited multiple times over the weekend by two men described as Chinese-looking.
Catapang called these reports sensationalized and baseless noting that they were sent to media outlets without clear verification.
