Global K-pop act BTS announced Wednesday that it will not submit its music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards.

The group’s members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook — shared the decision through individual Instagram Stories, posting a unified message in Korean that was translated into English on the platform.

“We have decided to not enter the Grammys this year,” the statement read. “I hope music can simply be heard and appreciated, rather than categorized by region or language.”

No additional details were provided regarding the decision.

The announcement follows the Recording Academy’s recent unveiling of five new competitive categories for the 2027 ceremony, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance. The move has sparked divided reactions online.

Supporters described the new category as a step toward greater recognition of Asian artists, while critics argued it could risk placing them in a separate lane from the Grammys’ major general-field awards.

The discussion has intensified as BTS continues its strong commercial run with its latest album, “Arirang.”

Throughout its career, BTS has earned five Grammy nominations but has yet to win the award.
